Vanguard’s Unique Trailer Off To A Flying Start
Heavy
lift specialist, Vanguard, recently completed its first job using its
revolutionary new Goldhofer modular, multi-axle trailer system. The trailer,
imported from Germany, complements the company’s existing services and in its
largest configuration has a 620t on-site load capacity.
The Goldhofer, configured into two separate units, was used to transport a 90t
gas turbine generator and a 65t stator from Durban Harbour to a power station
near Witbank.
According to Luc Tellier, Vanguard Project Manger, the job involved the
transportation, co-ordination, rigging and off loading of the turbine modules.
The company also obtained all the necessary road clearance for the abnormal
loads.
“The most obvious advantage of having the Goldhofer trailer system is saving
time. From Durban harbour to Mpumalanga, including on and off loading, the job
took four days to complete. The system can be broken up into various
combinations which can be pulled or pushed by the two SLT Mercedes Titan 650hp
horses that were imported with the trailer.”
“The modular system can be established on-site quickly and effectively as the
empty trailer can be broken up and loaded onto itself. This causes minimal
disruption to traffic as it is not classified as an abnormal load and the
Goldhofer can be on-site, anywhere nationally, within 24 hours.”
