International Accolade For Vanguard

Vanguard was awarded the SC&RA prize for the best rigging job in the projects below $150,000 category

Vanguard recently won acclaim at the Specialized Carriers and Rigging Association (SC&RA) conference held in Florida, USA. Represented by directors Bryan Hodgkinson and Phillipe Tellier, Vanguard won the prize for successfully completing the best rigging job in the category of projects to the value of up to $150,000.

The SC&RA, an international trade association, has a membership of over 1,300 companies from 47 countries and from industries including specialised transportation, machinery moving and erecting, industrial maintenance, millwrighting and crane and rigging operations, manufacturing and rental. The association’s main aim is to assist members in achieving and maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.

According to Bryan Hodgkinson, Vanguard Managing Director, the winning job was completed in South Africa for a high pressure pressing company. “We won for demonstrating the use of hydraulic gantries in standing up and positioning of press frames weighing more than 120 tons each.

“As part of the project we modified and adapted our standard gantry equipment to suit the requirements. This included the design and fabrication of a sliding hook system that accommodates movement on four axes – up, down, left, right – as well as turning around,” says Hodgkinson.

“This assisted us in successfully completing the job at hand, and also enables us to undertake future jobs that involve similar complex installations.”

This is the first time that Vanguard participated in the internationally renowned conference that was attended by 300 global companies, including the largest and most prominent heavy lifting concerns.

“We are extremely proud of this award. However, we also entered into the category for projects in excess of $750,000, the moving of a 650 ton ship through the streets of Cape Town. For us, a South African company, being considered for the prize amongst five of the world’s largest companies in this sector, was equally as important to us.

“Competing head to head with these international players really affirms our place in the global market, as well as our ability to successfully handle large scale projects,” concludes Hodgkinson.
