The self-propelled modular trailer – ideal for site work |
Vanguard has announced
the acquisition of a six axle self-propelled modular
trailer to add to its existing fleet. The trailer,
purchased from a German manufacturer, is due to
arrive in the country in December and adds a further
200 ton capacity to the Vanguard fleet.
James Robinson, Project Manager, Vanguard, says the
self-propelled modular trailer is the ideal addition
to the fleet and is perfectly suited to site work.
“The new trailer is modular which means that it
connects effortlessly to our existing modular
trailer, boosting our on site capabilities to over
1000 tons.”
The self-propelled trailer features its own drive
units and can be steered remotely by an operator,
negating the need for a Prime Mover. This is
especially beneficial on sites with space
restrictions or large obstacles. The projects
utilising the trailer require fewer personnel as no
driver is required, and it is relatively easy to
establish on site and is cost-effective. |

“Vanguard has identified a definite need in the
local market for these types of trailers and we will
be using them to bolster our Heavy Lifting division.
At the moment we see a lot of use for the trailer in
the ports for receiving heavy cargo and transporting
it to storage areas. Sometimes ships are delayed and
the cost of having a truck immediately available is
high. However, with this trailer, it can be easily
stored at the port or simply dropped off when
needed,” says Robinson.
“These types of trailers are being used to a large
degree internationally. Locally they are less
well-known and if needed, are rented from overseas
companies which requires a lot of time and
logistics.”
Vanguard operators already have experience in using
similar trailers and will be receiving more training
on the new addition to the fleet from technicians
from the manufacturer.
