In this arena Vanguard provides mechanical, electrical and
instrumentation (MEI) services which encompass project
planning, engineering and management. The company undertakes
large mechanical construction projects specifically related
to manufacturing. Vanguard’s project management skills
include the co-ordinating and execution of projects from
rigging and installation to commissioning.
Projects include installation and commissioning of complete
steel mills with up to 11 000t of equipment, board
manufacturing plants and automotive production stamping
plants. Vanguard’s capabilities for these and similar
projects extend to mobilising, managing and controlling 250
people on-site for up to 1 year. The company employs
specialist engineers and a large complement of skilled
labour.
Vanguard’s experience and expertise ensures that it is
capable of successfully undertaking these turnkey projects
all over the world with a key focus in sub-Saharan Africa.
Equipment Used
In completing this full spectrum of services, the division
is able to draw on the group’s resources and assets and
utilises an array of hydraulic gantries, fleet of crane
trucks and specialised trailers, including boom trucks and
pick and carry cranes, packing equipment, warehousing
facilities and other expert equipment.

Vanguard fully utilises its experience and focus on
innovation to complete projects that are considered too
demanding or unreasonable by other companies. This approach
to finding the right solution is showcased by the completion
of a project in Beirut, Lebanon that involved the complete
relocation of a plant to Booysens, Johannesburg. The scope
of the project included sourcing of labour and stripping of
plant in Beirut; marking, dismantling and shipping of 100
containers; land transport and off loading of containers in
South Africa; and the re-installation and commissioning of
the plant. |
