Following a highly publicized accident where a bulk carrier collided with a shiploader belonging to Bulk Connections (A Bidvest Company) in May 2017, Vanguard have successfully completed phase 1 of a salvage operation for Bulk Connections' ± 600 ton ship loader crane.
Damage to the crane was estimated at 100 million ZAR with talk of the asset being a write off.
However, after a thorough investigation it was concluded that the structure was indeed salvageable and Bulk Connections started the the process of finding the suitable contractors.
Ever the innovators, Vanguard were appointed as the main contractor and employed a strategy that used a combination of hydraulic lift systems, 22 axle lined self-propelled trailers as well as 2 mobile cranes.
Using this specialised equipment, Vanguard engineered a solution, which enabled the the lifting and levelling of the loader and the subsequent relocation on the quay side to the salvage point.
Vanguard, being one of three globally recognised heavy lift specialists considered for the role, were awarded the contract on the basis of our sound engineering and innovative solutions : saving the client time and money.
Phase 1 was completed by Vanguard on time & within budget!
